Revision Rhinoplasty Patient Stories Andrew B.

Okay, this story is a little long because I have a lot of things to say about my experience with Dr. Becker... and first of all, I can say they're all good!!!! I certainly gave him a lot to deal with right from the beginning, and in retrospect, the level of attention he gave me was probabaly one of the biggest reasons I chose to have my surgery with him.

I work in research, so you can imagine that my own research was very, very thorough. I needed a revision procedure -- because I wasn't happy with the results of my original surgery. I waited about 12 years, and finally decided it was time to do something about it.

I began by really, really doing SO much research beforehand... I looked at probabaly a hundred websites, read books, interacted in patient forums, and kept up plastic surgery news in general.

Once I had throughly researched everything, I wound up with a short list of the best doctors, and Dr. Becker was on that list. I reviewed the sites of all the doctors on the list and contacted each of them... at this point, Dr. Becker really differentiated himself from the others. You see, I wrote pages and pages of questions, and emailed each of the doctors... Dr. Becker definitely responded the most, and almost matched me for how much I wrote! The funny thing is, even after replies, I would come up with more questions and continue to send emails. Still, he, much more than anone else, took the time to answer them thoroughly. I even included photographs of my nose and photographs of noses I like... making little diagrams of problem areas, what I wanted, and everything. It was a lot of information!

Once I'd decided that he was my top choice, I made an appointment to have a consultation. Even though I got lost on the way and wound up about an hour late, he and his staff were okay with it and still made the time to sit down with me for a WHILE... answering all my questions, addressing concerns, and walking me through computer images of the 'after' result.

At that point, I felt even more comfortable and decided that I would spend some time thinking about it, but that I would definitely go with Dr. Becker if I decided to go through with it. Well, obviously I did decide to go through with it...

So, we emailed each other a couple times with some additional questions I had, and then, on the morning of the surgery, I went to the center where he performs his surgeries... which is only one building over from his office. It was a very nice place -- not like I expected at all.. much nicer. The nurses and people I dealt with were super nice, and they all told me how popular Dr. Becker is and what amazing work he does... that made me feel great.

Going into surgery I was a little nervous because I've had problems with anesthesia before. IN fact, I had though I would want local so as to avoid throwing up afterwards. Dr. Becker said he COULD do local, but he recommended going with general so as to avoid me moving during surgery and potentially screwing everything up. Okay, I said, I'd give it a try... he promised that he had a great anesthesiologist who was very, very good.

So, fast forward to going into the operating room... then an IV... and the next thing I know I'm waking up. This is where I was totally shocked, because I felt completely normal... okay, of course I was a bit groggy, but really I didn't even feel That groggy, and I had no discomfort or stomach problem and I didn't have to throw up or anything. I was really shocked.

I went home with a little cast-thing... that was much less intrusive than I thought it would be, and spend the evening resting...though I didn't feel like I had to do nothing but sleep. In fact, for the next few days I was probabaly more active than I should have been, but it's only because I felt pretty normal.

When I went for my follow-up and had the little cast removed, I was totally psyched about what I saw! even though he made it clear that there was still a lot of swelling, it was a huge improvement and just what I was looking for. Needless to say, my first view made me very happy.

As weeks and months past, the swelling went down and things looked even better... Dr. Becker continued to keep in touch and inquire about how it was going, and that was really nice. It made me feel like he actually cared! Because of this positive experience, I think he is one of the very best, if not the best surgeons, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
